Polish-based architects from KameleonLab: Rafal Specylak and Kuba Wozniczka have completed an extension to a residence in Wroclaw. The project involved the house extension on its both sides. As the name of the project called: Black Cube House, the house’s facade is clad in black-painted wooden panels.
Since the residence privacy became the most important thing, the architects minimized possible views from outside into the house by decreasing number of openings on both front and side elevations. To compensate this, a few skylights and 5 meter height channel glass wall lighting up stairs and hallway.
To emphasize concept of terrace as a part of the house – louvers surrounding terrace has been designed from the same material as rest of elevations – black painted timber. To highlight ‘empty parts’ of the structure (where solid mass is subtracted) – entrance zone and terrace zone, colored and white render was used instead of timber.
