Place to promote health. The keywords should be used when designing a modern hospital architecture for a better life improvements. As we often see that most hospitals are only functioning themselves as place for curing diseases, not to promoting the health itself.
The K2S Architects team caught those keywords and implemented it into the design for a hospital in Espoo city, Finland. At the same time, the design awarded them the first prize in an international architecture competition in 2008.
The hospital itself consists of a number of free-form units which rooms are arranged around the internal courtyards. Their rooms are facing outside the building, while the space around the inner gardens functions as the circulation and common living space.
Juries at the international architecture competition said that the hospital can be described as “a centre of vitality and well-being without a trace of institutional feeling”. Fully functional and luxurious architectural design.
