A modern home and interior design of Ricky Kenig house has been unveiled by New York based firm, Slade Architecture. Ricky is the owner of the Ricky’s NYC stores. He wanted to create a modern dwelling place for his family, which located in Brooklyn brownstone, known as a place that offers a private retreat spaces as well as open mixing spaces for tegether leisure.

In order to create such orientation, the program of spaces was arranged by floor. The basement become a casual family room equipped with a pool table and couches. The ground floor level was opened up to become a loft-like living room and kitchen with an exterior wood deck floating outside, over the backyard. The second floor became the girls’ floor with bedrooms, a study, kid-lounge and bath. Bachelor retreat was the idea of the third and top floor, with a home office, bedroom and bath.

The stair acts as a spine from basement right to the third floor, which is a distinct element and structured to rise free of the adjacent walls. A new skylight was inserted into the roof, above the stair, accentuating the vertical rise and bringing natural light down into the home.

The wall behind the stair was finished with sheets of blackened steel that run continuously from the parlor level to the roof. Display elements can be easily affixed to the wall using magnets.

Black and silver are the main focused color used in the kitchen. While mid level cabinets and security doors are made of aluminum sheet, the countertops are Absolute Black granite with a laminate on upper cabinets and island that features an abstract aluminum pattern on a black background.

Really nice. They clearly do not have the same stringent fire regulations as we do here in the UK. We wouldn’t get away with the the open stairs all the way up three stories AND and a basement. This would need lobbies and/or sprinklers. Land of the free!
