Skylab Architect’s North Office Interior Design

NORTH is a team of designers, writers, creative directors, film, and music makers which joined by an expeditionary force based in Pacific Northwest. As a group of creative workers, they need to have a well-built base camp which was not looked like an office. Skylab Architecture came down with a sophisticating result.

At a 10,000 square foot area, Skylab designed the layout to respond the need of alternative social interactions-cooking, eating, lounging, and gaming-that inspire creative work. Workstations are replaced with modular structures, furniture and equipment defined around activity. Collaboration is based on portability and a cluster-on-demand breakaway from the traditional static office.

The building itself was a former home to a printing business and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The designer left the basecamp tent, a white existing building shell untouched to preserve its originality. Interior walls and structures attached but they’re nit fixed to the shell. A single connection point provides fiber cable and utility function.

Pine paneling, raw steel and a carpet tile mural on the floor are the predominant interior features. Like an expedition that collects equipment that can handle the unknown challenge, the eclectic materiality of the movable office is selected for the ability to tackle different solutions to the design problem.

Woodworking is a piece of cake …

With tons of blueprints (over 16,000!) for different furniture designs and outdoor woodwork projectsyou can have a great insight into how to build different things with wood. In it, they tell you about wood, how to design projects, the detailed photographs, patterns, blueprints, materials list and step by step instructions on how to put build them.

The second part shows you the different tools and how to use them, and a complete guide to woodwork carpentry. And the color photographs and drawings are beautiful and show a lot of detail.
