Designing a house sometimes took more times than average. When other architects tend to complete their project in about 1 to 3 years, Tom Kundig done it in almost a decade of her life. It doesn’t mean that she was incapable to finish a project within deadline, but however perfection doesn’t deal with time. There were many things to cope with the construction problems that needs to refine and refine over years.
Her client was Jan McFarland Fox which has an area in the high desert of southern Idaho. It’s been a part of a winter island, so the most problems should come from the impassable driveway to the house during the winter, although the house is prepared for that.
The house is equipped with traditional winter climate appliances as well as fireplace and the great view of snowed landscape. In general, the house is built around a single large room that combines kitchen, living and dining areas. A unique part of this house that it has a garden of roses, grapevines and fruit trees which framed by 11 foot tall concrete walls. Nice place to spend days in the snowland.
